Office-365-hybrid-deployment

We have already mentioned why Office 365 is better for business than Google apps in one of the previous articles. But if you have been using GApps for a long time and now you have decided to migrate Google Calendar to Office 365 you might want to take all your Googledata with you.

It is ok with Google mailbox, there are native Office 365 instruments that will help you to migrate your Gmail to Office 365. But as for Google Calendar, you will have to transfer your data manually. See the instructions how you can do this below.

First you need to sign up to your Google Apps account and open GCalendar of a user that you want to migrate to Office365.

Choose My calendar -> Settings on the left-hand pane.

Then click on the “Export calendar” link and safe the .ICAL file to some specific location. Note that the file will be compressed. You need to unzip it before you can use it with Office.

Now open Outlook desktop program.

Select Calendar -> File -> Open & Export -> Import/Export

Paste the link of the ICAL calendar you can find in your GCalendar or simply upload the file you have saved locally. Finish the import wizard, synchronize the desktop software with the cloud and enjoy your old data in the new software!

However the migration may be a risky thing and some data may be lost on the way.

To prevent the data loss you should always backup Office 365 and backup Google Apps. In this case you will always have a reserve copy of your cloud data and never worry to lose it.
